EXPOSITION REVELATIONS | PARIS - GRAND PALAIS
2
We are in the presence of artisans who have mastered their trade by successfully
combining arts and fine crafts. The ‘Salon Révélations’ perfectly highlights this
excellent work, and we are pleased that the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is part
of this ambitious project, the International Fine Crafts & Creation Biennial.
The artists from Luxembourg are here to present their accomplishments in fine
craft, and, in return, they have become ambassadors of our country’s creative
output. Moreover, what better place to exhibit their work than at the sumptuous
Grand Palais, which is a masterpiece in and of itself, and a witness to the history
and expertise of artisanship.
The definition of the word ‘artisan’ reveals that he or she is ‘the one who puts his
art at the service of others’. This beautifully describes not just what is happening
at the ‘Salon Révélations’, but also what occurs on a daily basis in our craft
enterprises. The crafts are a major pillar of both our culture and economy.
Fine craft is at the opposing end of industrial mass production, and the impact of
handmade objects on our lives is threefold: they inspire us, they make us think,
and they often accompany us for generations. These objects of art have the
power of slowing down time - a welcome quality in an era when watches, even
handcrafted ones, seem to be turning faster and faster.
