D’origine néerlandaise, Wouter van der Vlugt est né en 1970 au Luxembourg.
Sculpteur sur bois depuis plus de dix ans, il a néanmoins commencé sa
carrière d’artiste indépendant comme créateur de meubles. Membre
fondateur du groupement d’artistes Sixthfloor, Wouter van der Vlugt
travaille depuis 2001 dans son atelier à la Neimillen, une ancienne scierie à
Koerich, Luxembourg. Dans l’oeuvre de Wouter van der Vlugt se trouvent
souvent des éléments architecturaux qu’il oppose aux formes organiques. Il
semble vouloir creuser au plus profond des matériaux pour en découvrir la
vraie nature, là où le vide et le volume se retrouvent. Même si le bois reste
sa matière de prédilection, il s’aventure souvent dans la fibre de verre, un
matériau qui permet à l’artiste de s’exprimer dans un langage différent.
From Netherlands origin, Wouter van der Vlugt is born in 1970 in
Luxembourg. Wood Sculptor since 10 years, he nevertheless starts his career
of independent artist as a designer of furniture. Founding member of the
artists group Sixthfloor, Wouter creates in 1991 his own workshop of
Neimillen, an old sawmill in Koerich. In the work of Wouter, architecture
elements are opposed to organic forms. He seems to search to dig in the
deepest of the materials to discover its true nature, where the emptiness and
the volume join. Even if the wood stays his predilection material, he often
works the fibre glass, a material that allows the artist to express himself in a
different language.
