Catherine Ventura

Catherine Ventura is an American-born embroidery artist who lives and works in Luxembourg. From an early age, the artist was fascinated by the textile arts when her father taught her to knit, sew and embroider. She perfected her skills at university, and later worked as a costume designer in her own rental boutique and for ballets and other artistic events. She also worked for the costume designer Tim Yip and the director Robert Wilson. She now creates artworks using the skills she has been honing for over sixty years.

For this exhibition, the artist creates wall embroideries by assembling fabrics, beading, dyeing and layering, using natural fibers such as silk, wool, linen and cotton. Here, the creative process is a meditative process, allowing us to connect with ourselves, with others and with thousands of years of embroidery history. Embroidery becomes a metaphor for human life, proceeding by assembling slow steps on the path of learning, on which we converge at certain points. Her work is an invitation to a spiritual journey to the very depths of our being.
