Christiane-Modert

As a child, Christiane Modert, born in 1958 in Luxembourg, spends a lot of time by drawing. As a teen-ager, she attends art an ceramic courses at the Chambre des Arts et Métiers. She studies Arts Plastiques in Paris, becomes an Art Teacher and takes part in cermamic workshops with Georg Krüger F), Petra Wolff (D) and Otokar Sliva (Au).

In the beginning of her artistic work, she exolres composition and colours in Batic, Collage and Paintings. After a long illness and a fire in her painting studia, she explores the living : arising, growing, blossoming and dying. For her, ceramics are the ideal tool to explore this.

For Christiane Modert the gesture is the conscious and spontaneous hand movement, which is particularly visible and noticeable on the ceramic object. She interprets "Territoire" as the natural and cultural landscapes from which our country and our identity are formed. Luxembourg, blessed with wonderful areas, fertile soil and a growth-friendly climate, has a special connection to nature. It is also the Land of Roses, dedicated to Mary, the Comforter and Mother of God. Christiane Modert traces these earthly-spiritual roots of female spirituality in her ceramics. Similar to this her ceramic objects: placed in a glass of water, they provide support for a single flower. Its uniqueness and beauty stands out and so it becomes a symbol of the uniqueness and beauty of nature and life.
