Laurent Remiche

Laurent Remiche was born in Luxembourg and began his career as an apprentice joiner at the Lycée de Wiltz (CATP) after school. In 1997, he obtained his master's degree in joinery. In 2000, he founded the joinery "Schräiner Wierkstat," which has specialised in the manufacture of interior furniture over the years.

Laurent discovered by chance the art of straw marquetry, a technique little known in his home region. To perfect his technique, he took a course at the Lison de Caunes workshop in Paris. His first major work was created to celebrate the centenary of the "Gëlle Fra", an emblematic monument in Luxembourg. He designed a serving tray and a painting highlighting the "Gëlle Fra" and the view of the city of Luxembourg.

Laurent's work is a skilful fusion of traditional joinery and straw marquetry. He uses local materials such as oak, walnut and maple to create intricate patterns in wood marquetry. In addition, he exploits the natural brilliance of French rye straw for his straw marquetry creations. His work highlights the beauty of nature and the meticulousness required to produce unique handcrafted pieces.
