Rita Sajeva was born in Bagheria, Sicily. After studying at the Fine Arts School in Palermo and obtaining a degree in architecture at the University of Palermo, she became a teacher of Art Education and Art History. In 1989, she met Luigi Mormino, publisher, photographer, journalist and art critic who introduced her to the Luxembourg and European art scene. She became friends with Lucien Wercollier, Jean Leyder, Jannot Bewing, Assadour… Since 1991, she regularly exhibits her sculptural works – preferably marbles, bronzes and Murano glass – in Luxembourg and Italy. She also draws, illustrates and paints. As Nathalie Becker says: « Her work is evocative of her life as a woman. Allusions to love, motherhood and the womb are palpable. Rita Sajeva lets the instantaneous flow of her emotions into her work. It is pure, smooth, carnal like an invitation to caress. All this is counterbalanced by the strength radiating from the bronzes, which makes us think that Rita Sajeva is working with what she has deep in her guts: her femininity. »
