Following the resounding success of the major exhibition held at 19Liberté in December 2016, and with a view to sustaining the commitment to designers and craftspeople, Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess, the Luxembourg Chamber of Trades, Spuerkeess and Mr Roland Kuhn founded the non-profit organisation De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg in May 2017.

The aim of the association De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg is to continue and develop the initiative, launched in 2016 by H.R.H. the Grand Duchess, to organise a major exhibition in the heart of Luxembourg that showcases and brings together the artists and craftspeople working in the Grand Duchy and the Greater Region.
One of the association’s primary objectives is to ensure the long-term future of the ‘De Mains De Maîtres’ exhibition, whose reputation extends beyond national borders, and to develop it into a fully-fledged Biennale of Applied Arts, thereby building essential bridges between key players in various European countries.
The mission of the De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg association is also to promote Luxembourg’s artistic crafts and artisanal expertise abroad. To complement and enhance this biannual event at the heart of the Grand Duchy, the association is developing a programme of exhibitions abroad, aiming to showcase a selection of Luxembourgish artisans each year in various European capitals, in line with major events specific to each country, or within embassies and other prestigious venues.
The association also places great emphasis on the passing on of skills – which is essential for the preservation of traditional trades and know-how – and has established grants and awards that enable both aspiring and established craftspeople to develop their skills. The grants, which are awarded at regular intervals, are partly funded by proceeds from exhibitions, at which all the works on display are available for purchase.
