THE BIENNIAL OF
ARTISANAL CRAFTS

Created in 2016 at the initiative of the Grand Ducal couple, Their Royal Highnesses Guillaume and Stéphanie of Luxembourg, the Biennale De Mains De Maîtres has established itself among the international exhibitions dedicated to promoting the arts and crafts, becoming, in less than ten years, one of the must-attend events in Europe. Supported from the outset by the Luxembourg Chamber of Trades and the Spuerkeess, the event takes place in the heart of Luxembourg City, which, for one week, becomes a crossroads of art and a showcase for craftsmanship that draws its vitality and modernity from the transmission of traditional skills and the perpetual pursuit of innovation.

In this era of global warming and all the environmental issues for which humanity is largely responsible, nature has never been the focus of our attention quite as much as it is now. By living in harmony with nature and finally regaining an awareness of our full place within the living world, we are compelled to observe—in new and varied ways—the other kingdoms with which we share the planet, particularly the plant kingdom, which is, to say the least, indispensable to our life on Earth.

Rather than simply taking advantage of nature, we should share with it; rather than exploiting and depleting it, we should nurture it; and we should use all the riches offered to us wisely, taking care to preserve them for the future of those who will come after us. Artisans are among those who, alongside farmers, perhaps best upheld these rules of good conduct toward living things—at least until the mid-20th century and the rise of consumerism in our so-called civilized countries.

It is urgent that we reclaim these values of living well together, of cultivating beauty without degrading this nature that is both unique and so precious. Indeed, rather than merely reclaiming it, we should imitate it, sublimate it, redesign it, reinvent it—and why not enhance it through our genius, just as the greatest artists have done since antiquity?

It is this “ Nature singulière” that we have chosen as the theme for the 5th edition of De Mains De Maîtres, which took place from November 20 to 23, 2025 — a highly topical subject that we hope will inspire all our artisans, whether they are ceramicists, glassmakers, wood or stone sculptors, weavers, cabinetmakers… exceptional creators, each and every one an alchemist of beautiful materials.

Let us hope that this 5th edition, which is taking shape under the best of circumstances with our guest of honor, the Czech Republic, will be a source of inspiration and personal growth for all artisans and creators, and for our ever-growing audience, a moment of surprises and discoveries among a selection of exceptional works.
