Ellen van der Woude

Ellen van der Woude is a ceramist from the Netherlands who lives and works in Luxembourg. After working as a jurist, she started her artistic career 10 years ago. Ellen regularly participates in exhibitions and works on order basis. Nature is prominent in her work and source of inspiration of a rare wealth. In her recent pieces, she especially puts forward the subject of marine and botanic life. Her work is made of unique pieces entirely hand made. In no moment in her creative work, the artist uses wheels or moulds. Each object is created from hand made prints, one by one. This laborious work creates single objects and gives them all their beauty. Considering that enamelling imprisons the material, the artist prefers to make use of the earth in its natural state or treated with engobe or oxides

For the theme of this biennial, her project links Luxembourg's multicultural society with the diversity of her white porcelain floral sculptures. These countries, with their different national flowers, enrich the culture and population of Luxembourg like countless blossoms, creating an harmonious floral wall, symbolizing a world in constant evolution.
