Pinon Nicolas

Trained in cabinet making at the Boulle school, Nicolas Pinon discovered urushi lacquer at the end of his studies. He had the chance to train in Japan with the master Nagatoshi Onishi. During his numerous trips to several Japanese cities, he collaborated with craftsmen to develop his lacquer technique. Now living in Paris, he is developing a new vision of urushi lacquer, combining his western culture with traditional Japanese lacquer techniques. Since 2018 he has been collaborating with the designer Dimitry Hlinka to develop new concepts. Together they have created the Entropie radiator and the Tipotto teapot. These two pieces use a new thermochromic vegetable lacquer that they developed with a lacquer manufacturer in Kyoto. They were both awarded the "Dialogues" prize as part of the "Prix Liliane Bettencourt pour l'intelligence de la main" in 2020.
