Stegmann Diana

With her creative curiosity, Diana Stegmann interprets one of the oldest craft techniques techniques - wickerwork. For her, wicker weaving goes far beyond the usual functionality. Her objects are an excellent combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern art. In recent years, Diana Stegmann's work has received awards for outstanding craftsmanship. Each of her objects shows incredible craftsmanship and high material aesthetics. The overall braided form of the body is organic and flowing in itself and combines the contrast of a soft braided form with an unusually spiky outer surface. Diana Stegmann is a virtuoso in the art of braiding, which she learned during her training at the State Vocational School for Basketry in Lichtenfels. "The term 'basket' refers too much to the use of the object - I am mainly concerned with the material I work with: willow." Diana's choice of materials focuses on willow tips which are traditionally found and processed in Europe and despite the amazing spectrum of colours in her objects - they are only used in unprocessed form.
