Joey Adam, born “Jo.lle” in 1972 in P.tange, is a very versatile artist who likes to experiment with different materials. A graduate in Graphic Arts from the Lyc.e Technique des Arts et M.tiers, she continued her studies in Florence, Italy, specialising in historical and film costumes, as well as stage sets and theatre props. Inspired by Melusina, the Grand Palais in Paris and the roses of Luxembourg, she designed these corsets. The creation of these works requires a solid foundation in sewing, sculpture and painting. They are made from a variety of resins, thermoplastics and ‘flexible’ wood. The body is cut from thermoplastic based on an original pattern. While casts and moulds have been used for some of the ornaments, most of them are entirely handmade or modified with specific modelling pastes. The entire assembly and painting process is handmade, including all the details visible on the artwork. The process involves many stages, from preparing of the material, cutting, finalising the decorative elements, assembling and adding a multitude of different patinas and delicate layers of paint.
