The 4th edition of the international fine crafts and contemporary creation biennial Révélations came to a close on Sunday, 26 May. The event was a resounding success, as reflected in the number of visitors, creators and exhibitors present at the Grand Palais.
Luxembourg, the guest of honour at this edition, celebrated the vitality of its cultural identity and the richness of its contemporary art scene. Supported by the association De Mains De Maîtres Luxembourg, the Grand Duchy showcased the excellence of its creative talents to the French public, highlighting the diversity of materials, techniques and craftsmanship through a selection of Luxembourgish artisans and designers.
The Grand Palais provided a magnificent setting for the exhibition and its artworks, creating an inspiring environment for new professional opportunities. On Wednesday, 22 May, collectors, gallery owners, art professionals and members of the press enjoyed an exclusive preview of everything the biennial had to offer. This occasion fostered valuable connections, sales and unique collaborations for international artists.
The transmission of craftsmanship and discussions about its future were also central to the biennial. Over five days, a series of workshops, seminars, conferences and discussions brought together artists and industry representatives to explore current issues in the art world.
A round-table discussion, organised by Mr Tom Wirion, Director General of the Luxembourg Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades, and moderated by Ms Maggie Steffen, invited several talented creators to discuss the present and future of their activities in Luxembourg, in the face of evolving techniques and an increasingly globalised market.
The Opening Ceremony
The biennial officially opened on the evening of Wednesday, 22 May, in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, as well as Their Royal Highnesses the Hereditary Grand Duke and Hereditary Grand Duchess, who had initiated the first major exhibition dedicated to Luxembourgish artisans and creators in December 2016.
The royal delegation was accompanied by Ms Sam Tanson, Luxembourg’s Minister of Culture, and Mr Lex Delles, Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, who emphasised in their speeches the importance of creativity and the preservation of traditional craftsmanship.
The Hors les Murs Programme
An Hors les Murs (Beyond the Walls) programme was developed in partnership with 14 public and private venues across Paris. Luxembourgish artisans were showcased in the exceptional setting of the Residence of the Luxembourg Embassy, located near the Champ de Mars, as well as in the window displays of Librairie Galignani, overlooking the Tuileries Garden.
Looking Ahead
In 2020, the 3rd edition of the De Mains De Maîtres Biennial will take place. Once again, professionals, visitors and partners will come together to celebrate outstanding craftsmanship and foster dialogue highlighting the importance of the arts and crafts sector.
