Biography

Silvia Alsina, a ceramic sculptor born in Barcelona, lives and works in Ettelbrück. Holding a degree in interior design, she discovered ceramics at the studio of a local sculptor. After running a school-workshop since 2010, she now dedicates herself entirely to creation and experimentation. Her work is based on a sensitive exploration of forms and materials, which she investigates through chamotte stoneware enriched with porcelain applications. Inspired by natural textures, organic movements, the imprint of time, and tribal art, she handcrafts unique pieces that capture the raw essence of the material, playing with contrasting textures and finishes—oxides, engobes, glazes, and smoking—to convey an aesthetic that is both contemporary and primitive, imbuing each surface with memory. For Nature singulière, she presents a series of vases entitled Lichens, made of porcelain on a black stoneware background. These works evoke the symbiosis between fungi and algae and celebrate the resilience of life in extreme conditions. Through this metaphor, she questions human fragility and invites us to reflect on our interdependence and the balance we must regain.
