Biography

Stefania Atanasiu, an embroidery artist of Romanian origin, born in 1975 and based in Luxembourg since 2016, carries on the ancestral textile art of her native country. An active member of the Semne Cusute association, she breathes new life into traditional shirts, trans- forming them into true hymns to nature, thus embedding her work in a process of transmission and respect for life. For Nature singulière, she presents a festive shirt inspired by a 19th-century model, entirely hand-embroidered with silk thread, metallic thread, and gold sequins on linen—materials chosen not only for their symbolism, linked to the earth, the sky, and the underworld, but also for their quality. The linen is grown without chemicals, reflecting a sustainable approach. The result is an embroidered shirt where stylised motifs, flowers, and insects coexist in a shimmering composition, paying homage to the fragile harmony between humans and nature. This piece, the result of a year and a half of work, designed to be passed down to her daughter as a legacy, embodies family, cultural, and environmental memory. Through this ancient gesture, which questions our relationship with clothing and time, Ștefania Atanasiu presents a work that is both intimate and universal.
