Catherine David, a French-Austrian jeweller, has been living and working in Luxembourg since 1999. Trained at the Nicolas Flamel School in Paris, she creates contemporary jewellery with bold compositions, combining precious stones and minerals without hierarchy. For Nature singulière, she presents three pieces that reflect her conviction: to take a different view of biodiversity and approach anything that deviates from the norm with enthusiasm. Take raw agate, for example—atypical in jewellery—which requires a paradigm shift: adapting the craft to nature, rather than the other way around. The Souche ring combines raw agate with a textured silver setting, evoking the bark of a tree trunk from which yellow gold branches emerge. The Campanule ring, in palladium-plated white gold, reveals a baroque Tahitian pearl transformed into a flower, with a yellow diamond at its centre. Finally, the Elésoir pendant — a playful fusion of an elephant and a watering can —pays homage to water, the source of life. Catherine David values unusual shapes and non-standard materials, designing each piece as a miniature sculpture imbued with a dreamlike and joyful spirit. Her work catches the eye and brings a smile to the observer’s face, inviting them to rediscover the unpredictable.
