Anne-Marie Herckes, born in Luxembourg in 1978, is a textile designer trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. After collaborating with iconic figures in fashion such as Viktor&Rolf and Kostas Murkudis, she founded her own brand in 2006, developing a distinctive universe in which accessories become works of art. Her work, exhibited in Luxembourg and internationally, is marked by a miniature and poetic approach to fashion, balancing homage and appropriation. For Nature singulière, Anne-Marie Herckes has created a series of brooches inspired by the tradition of the Wolperdinger—fantastical hybrid creatures from German folklore that embody a reinvented nature, where imagination takes precedence over science. The artist transposes the exuberance of life and the rich- ness of our mental imagery into her textile jewellery. Each piece, machine-stitched and hand-finished, combines felt, fabric, leather, pearls and rhinestones in a subtle balance between artisanal precision and creative spontaneity. Her brooches, fragments of a familiar yet uncanny bestiary, resonate perfectly with the exhibition’s theme, offering a sensitive and subtly offbeat interpretation of biodiversity.
