Tine Krumhorn, a French visual artist based in Echternach, the heart of Luxembourg’s Müllerthal region, since 2018—a setting that has profoundly shaped her artistic approach—has spent the past two decades developing an unconventional body of work using cardboard, a humble material she elevates into poetic bas-reliefs. Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Metz, she draws on a dreamy childhood and her background in scenography to develop a visual language infused with wonder. For Nature singulière, she presents a series of ‘inner landscapes’, using nature as a language of emotion and introspection. Influenced by 19th-century pictorial Romanticism, she explores solitude, melancholy, and contemplation through disquieting compositions, in which cardboard—cut, folded, and assembled—becomes a vibrant surface. Photographs, retouched with pencil and pastel, blur the line between image and materiality. By revealing the infinitesimal through fragile yet powerful forms, Tine Krumhorn invites benevolent contemplation and a genuine reconnection with the natural world. Her work—somewhere between sculpture, image, and memory—embodies an intimate, inhabited form of nature.
