Marie-France Philipps, a Luxembourgish artist with a degree in Fine Arts from the Sorbonne, has been developing a ceramic body of work for several years, centred on the figure of the koi carp—renowned for swimming against the current. For Nature singulière, she presents Koï-Carré, an installation composed of 42 hand- shaped and hand-painted porcelain carp, arranged in a constellation forming a square wall. Each fish—unique in its shape, curvature, pattern, and colouring—embodies the singularity of life. Arranged according to a geometric logic within a square measuring two metres per side, the carp appear to swim towards the centre, inviting the viewer to observe them closely. In contrast to the innate disorder of natural of fish schools, this orderly composition reveals the beauty of each element with- in a harmonious whole. Porcelain, chosen for its delicacy and translucency, lends the pieces a precious quality that enhances their ornamental character. The koi, a symbol of strength and perseverance, here becomes here a messenger of a sublimated nature—where every detail matters. This piece, both decorative and meditative, celebrates diversity in unity—an expression of the formal richness, and more, of the natural world.
