Biography

Nuno Quintino, originally from Portugal and based in Luxembourg since 2012, has adopted wood as his artistic language. After a professional life devoted to carpentry, he turned to craftsmanship, perfecting the art of woodturning to give shape to his imagination. Working exclusively with reclaimed wood, he shapes his pieces by hand, using a lathe and traditional tools. Each piece originates from an inner vision—a challenge to the imagination—and takes shape in forms that are as pure as they are complex, as organic as they are refined, revealing the raw beauty of the material. For Nature singulière, he presents Canoa (Canoe), a turned wood sculpture that evokes both the simplicity of a utilitarian object and the symbolic power of travel—of another place, another space-time. Canoa embodies nature transformed by human hands, yet always respected in its essence. The piece, both rooted in tradition and open to interpretation, celebrates the uniqueness of wood—its grain, its knots—as traces of life. Through his practice, Nuno Quintino reconnects with the essential—that which is so often lacking, yet deeply longed for in a world searching for meaning.
