Lily Weisgerber-Peters, a weaver born in Reckenthal (LU) in 1943, trained in Luxembourg, Switzerland, Finland, and Sweden, has been working since 1970 to preserve and reinvent a dying craft. Together with her husband Pit Weisgerber-Peters and their two daughters, she runs a workshop in Contern, where unique pieces are woven by hand on traditional looms and electronic Jacquard machines. The range includes ponchos, scarves, and wall hangings, made from traditional materials with strong sensory qualities, such as naturally coloured organic cotton, linen,hemp and recycled fishing nets. These materials, chosen for their low environmental impact and symbolic significance, are processed without dyes or chemical treatments—in a spirit of circularity and regeneration—with a life cycle that extends beyond their initial use. For the 2025 De Mains De Maîtres Biennale, Lily and Pit Weisgerber-Peters present three versions of ponchos and scarves—each creation celebrating the raw beauty of natural fibres and paying homage to ancestral know-how, while incorporating them into a contemporary aesthetic.
