Biography

Doris Becker, a Luxembourgish ceramic sculptor, lives and works in Fischbach. A member of the International Academy of Ceramics and the Artistic Cercle of Luxembourg, she has been exhibiting internationally since 2006. Her work has won several awards and is included in public and private collections. Her artistic approach is rooted in a deep exploration of the material, nourished by residencies and symposiums throughout Europe and beyond. For Nature singulière, through a series of hand-crafted ceramic sculptures, she pays homage to trees in their symbolic, mythical, spiritual, and organic dimensions, with trunks marked by time, their deformations bearing witness to a history, an experience, a memory. Doris Becker thus questions the traces and beauty of natural alterations. Clay, her favourite material, allows her to translate the cracks, tensions, and wounds of wood while asserting a strong presence. The contrast between the vulnerability of trees in a threatened environment and the durability of ceramics, this search for balance between transformation and permanence, gives the work a poetic and committed scope.
