Lidia Markiewicz, born in Poland and based in Luxembourg since 1975, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, contemporary jewellery, and textile art. Trained in art education in Legnica and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Trier, and influenced by the visual worlds of Cy Twombly and Monet, she has created an artistic universe shaped by memory, nature, and materiality. Created specifically for Nature singulière, the jewellery installation Nests is a series of woven and crocheted textile sculptures made from linen, silk, and cotton threads, interwoven with silver and gold wire, and incorporating amber, rock crystal, wood, and recycled materials. These nests, both fragile and precious, evoke shelters of living beings, origins, and the cyclical nature of life. The act of weaving becomes a meditative gesture—a way of connecting elements and capturing the organic essence of the world. Each piece is unique—a result of poetic and sensory freedom, enriched by the expertise inherited from her family of jewellers. Lidia Markiewicz’s work, exhibited internationally and recipient of several awards, is deeply rooted in the living world. It reflects a commitment that honours the transmission of knowledge and celebrates the beauty inherent in the act of creation.
