Sophie Meyer born in Luxembourg in 1989, is a costume and fashion designer who graduated from the London College of Fashion. Her work, situated at the intersection of clothing art and performance, explores the relationship between material, environment and identity. Inspired by the marine world, the net-like structure of coral, and the recurrence of this network motif in living organisms—roots, mycelium, veins—her fluid, aesthetic creations transform clothing into a manifesto for a revered and reimagined nature. Specifically for Nature singulière, she presents Re-Earth, a collection of three pieces crafted from four sustainable plant-based fibres: hemp, linen, nettle, and seaweed. The first piece, Re-Surgence, is an haute couture gown reminiscent of fan-shaped coral, hand-woven from seaweed thread and adorned with fragments of recycled CDs. The other two pieces —Re-Generation, a pair of corseted trousers, and Re-Connection, an asymmetrical dress— are ready-to-wear, zero-waste garments, constructed using precise patterns and combining embroidery, weaving, nettle fabric, and silk organza. Sophie Meyer is thus committed to rethinking fashion by incorporating alternative materials and reducing the ecological impact of textile design.
