Yanis Miltgen, a 24-year-old graduate of Atelier Chardon Savard in Paris, is emerging as a rising star in contemporary embroidery art. In 2023, his debut collection, histoire d’une vie (story of a life), earned him the Hand & Lock Award in London and the ‘Les de(ux) mains’ prize from the Comité Colbert. For Nature singulière, he created Technica Natura, a monumental textile sculpture that fuses ide- alised nature with obsolete technology. Guided by an utopian vision in which flora and fauna coexist with the remnants of our digital age, he repurposes old components and devices—mother- boards, cables, headphones—infusing them with new life, and integrates artistic embroidery techniques such as Lunéville crochet and needlework to craft a hybrid, eternal, and serene nature. The piece, comprising embroidered knitting looms, stems and robotic birds, critiques consumer society and interro- gates our relationship with technological waste. Yanis Miltgen’s approach—both poetic and critical—is rooted in a rigorous formal research process that merges craftsmanship with experimentation. Technica Natura thus becomes a textile manifesto for a future that reconciles technological progress with the resilience of living organisms.
