Mrazkova / Bichel Iva / Jean

Iva Mrazkova, a qualified painter and sculptor, was born in 1964 in Opava, Czech Republic. She has lived and worked in Luxembourg since 1989. Since 2007, Iva Mrazkova and Jean Bichel, blacksmith, born in 1935 in Luxembourg, have been working together on sculptures in steel-corten. Iva gives the cold and heavy material a soul and a new face. The steel comes alive with almost feminine curves, with fluidity and lightness. The grey and dull steel, through oxidation, becomes reddish, receives a sienna patina and after a time spent outside, its skin is covered with “ageing” wrinkles, due to the ravages of the natural elements. Thanks to the knowledge and experience of the master blacksmith Jean Bichel and his team, thanks to his precision in the making, his aptitude for creation, the sculpture receives the forms requested according to the artist’s wishes.
