Reitz Jean-Pierre

Jean-Pierre Reitz was born in 1958 in Pétange, where he still lives and works. His first contact with luthiery occurred while playing the violin when he was young. After graduating from the International School of Violin Making in Cremona, he opened his workshop in Pétange in 1984. Further training in Angers (FR) and Chicago (USA) completed his professional formation in luthiery. Violin making combines Jean-Pierre’s passions for music and wood work in a symbiotic way. His enjoyment of crafting these instruments, especially violins and violas, has only grown over the years. From the selection of the woods, the design, actual crafting and application of the varnishemerges a double piece of art: the instrument as well as the sound it produces. The idea that his instruments would serve their players as a means of creative expression for years and years, turned out to be a steady motor to his passion for luthiery.
