Biography

Stefania Staltari, a Luxembourgish artist with Italian roots and a background in architecture, has developed a sensitive approach to ceramics that reflects her dual foundation in technical rigour and creative exploration. Trained in Germany and active in Luxembourg, she has recently refocused her career on art education, reconnecting with a freer and more intuitive form of expression. This is evident in her hand-shaped stoneware vases—made without a potter’s wheel—in a direct and authentic relationship with the material, presented as a series at the 2025 De Mains De Maîtres Biennale. Each piece is unique and engraved using the sgraffi- to technique—a method of incising the surface of raw clay—to reveal patterns inspired by local flora, like imprints. These decorations, highlighted by a glossy transparent glaze, contrast with the matte texture of the natural stoneware—white, terracotta, or black—and convey a tension between raw nature and artisanal sublimation. This creation, both utilitarian and contemplative, invites us to reconnect with simplicity, while harbouring a fragment of nature that we must respect and protect—echoing the theme of Nature singulière.
