The Biennale

The Jury Award — Leir Foundation 2025 was awarded to Letizia Romanini for her work in straw marquetry, an ancient craft that she reinterprets with sensitivity and a modern sensibility.

A Luxembourg-based visual artist, Letizia Romanini has developed a practice informed by photography, sculpture, and craftsmanship. Through her works, she explores the connections between landscape, memory, and material.

For the Nature Singulière Biennial, she presented Lux_Field-VIII and Lux_Field-XI, two panels made from dyed rye straw meticulously laid by hand. With their shifting reflections and luminous texture, these works reveal the poetic richness of a humble material once nicknamed “the gold of the poor.”

Her work invites us to slow down our gaze, to observe the material in detail, and to reconsider our connection to life, biodiversity, and the long-term process of creation.

The 2025 RTL Public Choice Award was presented to Sandra Cifani, recognized for the delicacy of her filigree work and the poetic power of her jewelry series inspired by the four seasons.

Trained at the Institute of Arts in Namur and later in Valenza, Italy, Sandra Cifani worked for major fashion houses before opening her own studio.

After training in enameling in Portugal, she discovered the filigree technique, which has become one of her preferred artistic languages.

For the Nature Singulière Biennial, she presented a series of pieces in 950/1000 silver filigree, entirely handmade. Each piece of jewelry evokes a moment in the natural cycle: the slowness of winter, the awakening of spring, the bounty of summer, or the light of fall.

Through the precision of the twisted wires, the delicacy of the curves, and the use of recycled materials, Sandra Cifani offers creations that are at once sensitive, sustainable, and deeply connected to the history of the materials.
